♫♪ I'm so excited......

....♫♪ and I just can't hide it ♫♪......... you know the rest : )
I had a phone call today from Tescos, I had been nominated for mum of the year 2012 by a friend and I have made the shortlist!!!
I am so overwhelmed with this, I feel so special. What a wonderful thing to do. This weekend is going to be so good, I am meeting a lot of warriors for the Mesothelioma UK meeting and also have something to celebrate.
I told Kieran that I had been shortlisted and he said 'pfff, Don't know why'.....lol,
Children are wonderful!!!
Thank you so much Tracey for nominating me, I am touched by this gesture x

Mick and Keith, your days are numbered!!!

I went to my Dr's surgery today and asked if I could have the phone number for the secretary of the gall bladder Dr. I was given his number, or so I thought. I rang them and said I hadn't heard anything from them. I was told I was on a list to have the op done. I asked if it was the NHS list and was told 'yes', I told them I would be going private and was met with "when the Dr's secretary tells them I have a private appointment, I will be removed from the list". I asked for the Dr's direct number, called it and told that secretary what I had been told. She said I shouldn't be on an NHS list and would look into it for me. Later in the afternoon I got a call back to say I would be having the op done within the next 2 weeks.....at last!!!
I have had so much pain and discomfort this past couple of weeks that I will be glad to get this sorted out for good. Theo has been wonderful, no issues at all, even Frederick (the TOF) has been behaving although I do feel I need a dilatation again. I am hoping I can get back to work once Mick and Keith (the gall STONES) have been evicted. : )

What a weekend.

Oooopps!!!!!

Stork checking out the damage.

Well....Mick and Keith (My gall stones) have been stomping around all weekend. I will speak to my GP again about getting them sorted out. About time they retired!!

We heard a strange noise yesterday afternoon and saw that part of the back garden wall has caved in. It doesn't look like it had any foundations under it and all the rain has weakened it. Who ever built it just threw a few bricks up to keep the level back, I don't know how long it had been like that. It has a fence on top which feel into the neighbours garden, thank goodness the children weren't out there. I have got someone coming out to look at it this week. I would think a new wall all the way along the garden is needed. I hope no more falls down. The cats were afraid to go into the garden, they knew something was wrong. they have been a bit edgy today as well so I hope they aren't sensing any more is going to fall.

Apologies.

Sorry for the late blog. I had to get a new lead for my laptop. All back on now though.
I had a lovely day on Thursday with my friend Chrissy.

We went to Plymouth station to get a train. Chrissy was parking her car when she said to me "what is he doing putting his fingers up?" A man and woman in the car behind us were very agitated. He was making fingers walking gestures at us and mouthing you can walk. Then the woman got out of the car and asked who was disabled and did we have a badge? Bloody cheek, I told them I did and yes we did have a badge. We then turned our back on them and went into the station. some people are just so rude and don't think you can have a badge unless your legs aren't working. Well you two, you'd be surprised to know that lots of people have the use of their legs but not other parts of their body. Chrissy was furious but it wasn't going to spoil our day. I wasn't quick enough, when he said you can walk I should have looked down at my legs and shouted "it's a miracle, I can walk!"

We got to the station in time for 11:30am and then found that the train had left at 11am. We went to Calstock in Cornwall. We both reminisced about walking along the rail way line on the black bridge over the river Tamar when we were teenagers. Not something I would recommend as it is very dangerous. It was a lovely day, such a quiet little place and changed a bit from when I used to go to Calstock on my school trips.

Yesterday was a quiet day. Kieran is back to school and seems happy enough now.
I am looking forward to next week as it is my 4th Meso UK conference and I have been asked to say a few words about the warriors. I am also looking forward to seeing my lovely warrior friends again although there are some that will be sadly missed who were there last year.

Calstock trip.

The weather has been pretty good the last few days. Kieran is now back to school after admitting he was having problems at school again and making himself poorly.
Yesterday I went in the city centre and met my friend, Carolyn. We had a great time just chilling out and, of course, ended up in Thornton's coffees shop.
Today I am off to Calstock with my friend, Chrissy. We are having a train journey there and then lunch. I haven't been to Calstock for a while, I hope the weather holds out.
I have been feeling very nauseous the past few days. The pain in my right side has disappeared and this makes me think even more that the gall stones (Mick and Keith) are still playing up. I haven't heard anything from the Dr so will wait till next week and then get in touch.
Talking of next week, I am off to my 4th Mesothelioma UK conference on 1st October in London. I have been asked to talk again about the Meso Warriors and what they stand for.
I am asking all warriors to have input in this and put their views across on what they get from it. There have been some wonderful comments. Being a warrior isn't just being on Facebook, it is email, phone, letter and much more media that is used to support. We have grown into a great family who look after each other..... Wonderful, be very proud of yourself people x x

Charity shop shock!!

One charity shop outfit, was £299 and now reduced to £170!!!

I went into town with my friend, Chrissy. She made me lunch at her house and then we went in to meet Jayne and Viki. We went to one of the local charity shops and saw what we thought was a hideous outfit. The price tag was shocking. It was priced at £299 and reduced to £170. What is happening to charity shops these days? They seem to have lost the whole point of what their goal is. Charity is mainly second hand things. This outfit was second hand as the label was half way off.
We carried on around town, lurking in and out of many charity shops. I found a lovely top for Siobhan and enjoyed the fun we had. I wasn't feeling at my best today. The gall stones (Keith and Mick) are playing up. When I got home I had a lot of pain and was sick. I didn't have anything to eat as I felt nauseous and usually if I don't eat, the pain goes. I had a call the day before from the Dr's secretary and am hoping I get an appointment very soon to sort it out.
I haven't taken pain killers for about a week but last night i had to. I was nearly in tears with the pain. Thinking of it now, I probably didn't have Kieran's bug, I think it was Mick and Keith again.
Kieran is with his dad today and home later, back to school tomorrow.

What to do today?

Kieran has been borrowing games from Love film and has rang me this morning to see if the latest game has arrived. I got down stairs and saw it had so I will be taking that out to him today as he is staying with his dad till tomorrow. He will be back to school on Monday.
I am off to lunch at my friend Chrissy's today. We may take a wonder on the Hoe again. The weather isn't bad at all.
I am feeling a lot better, the gall stones (Mick and Keith) have been playing up again. My notes have been on the Dr's secretaries desk since the 3rd August as she says she has been waiting to hear if the clip has been done...... Mmmmmmmm....... Maybe telepathy would be a good tool to have at times : ) She didn't seem to know much about my underlying condition with my lungs. She told me I didn't have the last treatment as I had a chest infection. That wasn't the case, I told her I was in the Nuffield and the Dr's thought it safer to be in Derriford, the local hospital as they had all they needed there if there were any complications due to Theo. Has she actually read anything?
She is now going to speak to the Dr who will be doing the op. I am hoping it isn't around 1st October as I am not going to miss the meso conference. I am so looking forward to seeing my warrior friends in the flesh.
Nothing from the wig corner yet, they have agreed to give me back the cost of the wig. I have a hairstyle that can be described as Baldrick's style : )
I won't get anymore wigs now as I won't be able to get them altered. This place was the only one in Plymouth.

Another busy day.

Kieran's dad and I went to school to speak to the school Dr for his medical. He is staying off school till Monday. All went well with his medical and he is feeling much better and seems to be back to his normal self. As he was sick on Tuesday, the school rule is 48 hours without being sick before he can go back. That would leave Friday, I gave him the extra day to make sure he was better so all good to go on Monday.
In the afternoon we went to the dentists. (The consultant's secretary called yesterday to say that the appointment for 29th September was now cancelled as the consultant had looked at Kieran's x-rays and decided that the dentist could deal with taking Kieran's tooth out. I explained that Kieran wouldn't let them take it out and we would need to discuss what was best for him. While talking to the secretary the letter giving Kieran his appointment for the dentists the next day arrived through the door.)
We get to the dentist to, what I thought, discuss what happens next and...... the dentist is ready to take out Kieran's tooth. I said I certain the appointment was to discuss what to do next. The dentist said no, they were taking it out today. I told her he wouldn't let her and having a bad experience myself as a child with dentists, I would not put him through it. Kieran was so frightened, he went pale. I told him that his dad and I wouldn't put him through it.
I took Kieran's dad home and then went to pick up Richard. He is staying at his dads while he is on holiday, We took Kieran home and then off to the Dr's to see the nurse for Rich to have his MMR vaccine (Measles, Mumps, Rubella).
I then took him home and went back to my house. Kieran is staying with his dad tomorrow till Sunday. He will be doing his radio show on the internet. He enjoys it so much and would lie to have it as a career. Hopefully I will have a quiet weekend : )

I have had some news about my wig. Browns are going to cover the cost I had paid for it. I will never go to them again. I will just enjoy the 14 wigs I have : )

More warrior blogs.

I am adding 2 more blogs to my site today. One is written by Tess who is a meso warrior like myself and the other is a little different, it is from a carers point of view. It is written by Ray, the husband of the wonderfully brave Mavis Nye. Tess will join a happy band of fighters who are not prepared to lay down and give in. Welcome to blog world Tess x x

Thank you Kieran.

Kieran has very kindly passed his sickness bug onto me, he has been home from school since Monday as he was not feeling well.
Today he has his annual review. He had one done in June and was awarded a statement again and 2 months later we have to do it all again.
I had a call about my wig last night. I have asked for the money back for the cost of the wig, we shall see what happens. I know one thing, I won't be having it altered at that store again!!!

More wig trouble!!

I have had quite a busy day today, Kieran didn't go to school yesterday or today as he has been feeling sick again. I picked Siobhan up from her boyfriends, went for luch with my friend, Tina and then went into town to pick up my wigs.
I could have cried, the new one is destroyed, there is no use trying to get it repaired. The other one is still with the flicked up fringe as the steamer, used to educate the hair, blew up. so that will be a curler in it to make it stay down, which it won't.
The girl in the shop offered another go at it and I refused. I told her I don't want to have to come back again.
She much have called her boss as he called and was quite abrupt in his manner saying the girl in the shop should not have touched the wig as it wasn't bought in their store. I told him it was brand new and unwearable. He said he would replace it if he can find the same one or he would credit me back. I will wait and see what happens. I know one thing though, I won't be going back there ever again!!

Great day on the Hoe.

Michael Collings playing up on the Hoe.
Chrissy and I looking a bit wind swept : )
My great grandfather's name (John Henry Littlejohns) on the plaque on the Hoe.

I went on to Plymouth Hoe yesterday with my gorgeous friend, Chrissy. It was the Americas cup and a big event was taking place. We didn't get there till late but managed to catch Michael Collins (Britain's got talent) on stage. He was very good and we could have listened to him singing for a very long time. We then went and got a cup of coffee, Chrissy was tickled by the fact that I had to hold onto my wig as it was very windy : )
On our way back we looked at the huge monument on the Hoe and I told Chrissy that my great grandfather's name was on it. She suggested we find it, and we did. I feel so honoured to see his name on the plaque. It was lovely day, the rain kept off which was good.
We then went on to visit friends and I eventually got back home at 8:30pm! So much for having a roast for tea, Rich and I had something else, we are having our roast tonight : )

Kieran didn't go to school today as he said he wasn't feeling well, he is going back tomorrow and next week there is another annual review of his statement and his medical.

Love to friends down under x x

My thoughts, love and strength are with Rod and family today as they say goodbye to Rod's beautiful Angel, Julie.
It is such a sad time but I hope they can draw strength from the path she has left behind her. So many wonderful memories to share and also remembering how much love Rod had shown Julie in her last days. They had something very special that many people do not see in there lifetime.
Thinking of you all today. x x x

You can shed tears that she is gone,
or you can smile because she has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back,
or you can open your eyes and see all she's left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see her,
...or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember her only that she is gone,
or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind,
be empty and turn your back.
Or you can do what she'd want:
smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

10 years on.

I can't believe that 10 years ago the twin towers in New York was destroyed, taking many innocent people with them. It was such a very sad event, I was working as a school children's escort when it happened. It was such a shock to see it all happening. It didn't seem real at the time. We all know now it was very real and the saddest thing of all is how many people were exposed to asbestos and will have to deal with asbestos related issues. I hope that by the time these people develop the illness that there is a cure.
Sending support and love to all affected by this. x x

A very productive week.

Rich and I at the cinema x

I am so pleased with the meetings and discussions I have had about a new project with Richard at the National Asbestos Helpline. It is a very exciting venture and I am keeping every thing crossed that we get a 'yes' to go ahead. I will say more about it when I have more information and certainty about what will be happening.

My son, Richard, came home on Thursday, we have all missed him so much. He has a big decision to make which will determine his future.
He is busy learning his lines for a pantomime he is in and has turned into a confident and happy adult.
Tonight Rich and I are going to the cinema to see "rise of the planet of the Apes". It will be great to spend some time with him.

Meeting Richard.

Kate(Our specialist lung nurse) myself and Richard (National Asbestos Helpline)

Richard is with the National Asbestos Helpline. He has so many wonderful ideas flying around. We have talked a lot about setting something up in Plymouth and it is all looking promising. Richard was a great boost to the meeting today and was welcomed by all who attended. He answered questions and was most helpful with his answers. I am meeting him again tomorrow to discuss a project he has been working on and see if we can put it into practice.

George is pictured above with me, from the meeting. He has organised a charity night to raise funds for the Mesothelioma cancer unit in Derriford Hospital. George has mesothelioma and has just got through a 6 week course of chemotherapy. He is looking up well and is a great character, he has a wonderful smile and is an inspiration to all who meet him. I hope his charity night is a great success.

Another milestone reached!

Chrissy on the terraced roof gardens above a pub on the Barbican.
A little girl stopped me and told me she liked my dress. How sweet is that : )
The sardine look : )
This one is a real card!!! Ok, you can stop groaning now : )

I am so pleased to be able to see Kieran go into year 10 today. He nearly 10 years old when I was diagnosed and I was so upset about not seeing him go to senior school for the first time, 5 years on and I have seen him start another year at school and have watched him turn into a wonderful young man. He is growing up so fast and I am so proud of him and his achievements. Next summer will be his last term at school. He will then go onto college and, hopefully, I will see another milestone passed.
I am off to school this morning for a meeting and then out to meet my friend for lunch. My sick note runs out on 29th September so I hope I can think about getting back to work. I have to find out what is happening about Keith and Mick, the (gall) Stones.
This week is going to be busy and my life seems to be getting back to normal.

Chrissy and I went to the Barbican for lunch yesterday and when we had a walk about, we found a couple of ugly dresses, real mingers : )
We got caught in the rain and I ended up borrowing a top from Chrissy as mine was soaked.
I made a lovely roast when I got home, well, I thought it was lovely and had cous cous with it for the first time. I tried it at Chrissy's the night before as she made cauliflower cheese with lemon and coriander cous cous. She gave me a packet to take home and it was delicious. I am now a fan of cous cous, it is only because I am a very fussy eater, a veggie who hates peppers and mushrooms!!

UGLY DRESS NIGHT.

Rachael and her awful gown.
Nicole looking good in her bad dress.
Neeta with her Pollyanna does miner look. This dress is a Laura Ashley one believe it or not!!
Avis and her beast of an outfit.
Paula looking glam in her terrible creation.
Chrissy modelling the new line in overalls and her shoes she Gok'd herself!!
Clare in her, 'come to bed number' yes....well, say no more Clare!
Me with my vampish creation, a real nightmare!
Jayne in her Wizard of Oz dress. Dorothy's wardrobe gone bad!

Rachael announces the winner..... by a large vote ... it is .......
.......JAYNE!!!!

Last night was fabulous. My friends and I have been searching for an ugly dress for weeks now and the photo's above will show you some of the best that were found.
Jayne was voted as having the ugliest dress but she did have a very close second in Anita's dress. Clare was unhappy about losing the crown to Jayne and stole her tiara. It was all good fun.

I am feeling so much better and hoping it is the treatment that is making me feel so well. Having great friends and family is also a help. I still have a pain in my right side but sure that is to do with Mick and Keith, the stones.
I will see my GP about it next week.

All the ugly dresses featured will be put on ebay and proceeds will be going to Theo's holiday fund. The night was for Theo's fund too, I have such wonderful friends x Thank you so much all of you for your hard work and a great night.

Thank you Lauren : )

Lauren and I, Thank you so much Lauren for your help x x x

Lauren is the daughter of my friend, Clare. Lauren had toys and books that she didn't want anymore and sold them for Theo's holiday fund. I was so touched by this. I can't believe how wonderful some people are.
Last night I went out with my friends, it was a sort of get together for Theo's holiday fund. With tears in my eyes, I told them all last night how I hadn't ever felt so loved. It is very humbling to have so many very special people who really want to help and are genuine from the bottom of their hearts.
I want Theo to pack his bags, so many people want him to have a very long break, I hope he is listening!!!

Wigs!!!

I picked my wigs up yesterday, didn't try them on in the shop as the girls were so busy. Got home after my morning out with Mary, which was lovely by the way. I put them on, one fitted perfectly,
The other was too small. The girl in the shop had taken out too many strips. I rang this morning and told them it was too small and was told to bring them back. I went in, met my friend Maria on the way. I had the fitting and showed the girl how small it was now, she agreed and said she would put a couple of strips back in. She said she would call me when she has done it. I have contacted the main shop on facebook and am currently waiting for the boss to call.
I went in to see my nephew after I took the wig in. He has a little son who has just turned 1. Where does the time go? He is so gorgeous, looks just like his daddy when he was that age.

Kieran is with his dad tonight, Siobhan is out with her friends and Rich is STILL in Ireland. I am off out with the girlies tonight to watch a film and have a bite to eat, Not an Indian restaurant this time!!!
