VATs op memories.

6 years ago today i went into hospital to have a VAT's op. A VAT's op is called a Video Assisted Thoracoscopy. A VAT's op is a surgical procedure that allows Dr's to see inside the chest and lungs. This also allowed my Thoracic surgeon to remove the fluid built up and to take a biopsy which will determine a diagnosis, in my case, mesothelioma.
This day, in 2006, we didn't know if we were coming or going. Mesothelioma was bandied around, medical people were buzzing around me like bears around a honey pot. None of us knew what was to come. In 2 days time, 5th November 2006, it would be Siobhan's 20th birthday, I looked at my diary entry for that day. I remember her saying it was the worst birthday she had ever had. I was heart broken, I didn't understand what was going on. Thankfully time has moved on and 6 years later, I am still here and looking back at how things were.
On Monday, I will be celebrating Siobhan's 26th birthday. She has been through so much at such a young age and has taken on the role of a carer. I hope all her dreams come true, I know mine have : )
